Enternship: Fantastic opportunity to get involved with Global Entrepreneurship Week (start ASAP until Dec 08)

Date added: Thursday, 17th July

Global Entrepreneurship Week will be the first-ever celebration and promotion of the entrepreneurial spirit worldwide. Using the tried-and-tested campaigning model which has worked in the UK for the last four years (www.enterpriseweek.org.uk), we hope to inspire millions of young people worldwide to unleash their ideas to address some of society’s greatest issues.

We will encourage our partners in over 60 countries to run events and activities which engage their youth, and connect potential and actual entrepreneurs across borders. We will also create a handful of activities to encourage young people to ‘go global’ with their ideas.

To do this, we need two volunteers to work in the Make Your Mark offices with the Global Entrepreneurship Week team. They would work for a month or more, between August and December 2008. They would gain invaluable experience of running a campaign; of communicating with young people; of working in an international team; and of an awareness of intercultural dynamics. They would also learn how to take part in complex projects, organise events/activities, and use new web-based IT tools.

As we are a non-profit company, this volunteer scheme would not be paid. Reasonable travel expenses and lunch would be covered.

Specific responsibilities would include a combination of the following:

Promote Global Entrepreneurship Week

- Phone and email partner organisations in the UK; encourage them to run global activities, and advise them how to do so. Target: contact 5 new organisations a day.

- Blog on the Make Your Mark (www.makeyourmark.org.uk) and Global Entrepreneurship Week (www.unleashingideas.org) websites, updating the public on the global campaign. Target: 1 blog post a week.

Build Global Entrepreneurship Week

- Arrange conference calls for Global Entrepreneurship Week partners around the world; disseminate the agenda; write up notes; chase follow-up. Target: 1 call a week.

- Write up ideas for taking Enterprise Week activities ‘global’; post them on the Enterprise Week Ideas Bank; vet ideas which come in from the public. Target: 3 new ideas a week.

- Arrange logistics for events (particularly the Big Debate planned on 17 November); make travel bookings for speakers and MYM staff. To be done as necessary.

Build our Global Activities.

- Create a toolkit of material (written, photo and film) to explain how to Speednetwork the Globe. Target: by 1 September.

- Encourage partners in the UK to run Speednetworks and register them. Target: 300 Speednetworks in the UK.

- Encourage international partners to run Speednetworks in their own countries; help them organise a set-piece Speednetwork during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Target: 40 countries which Speednetwork.

- Promote the online competition Unleash It! to companies and student groups in the UK (working with our Business and Education teams); increase the number of challenges posted from the UK; increase the number of people in the UK uploading solutions. Target: 50 UK Challenges, 10,000 unique visitors from the UK.

- Register teams taking part in the One Water Project from the UK; work with partners worldwide to maximise the number of teams taking part from other countries; maximise media interest in the project (working with our Media team). Target: 100 teams in the UK and 150 teams from abroad registered.
